Toward a Meaning-Centered Cognitive Therapy

The following essay was submitted earlier today to the Fountain Magazine essay contest.

Toward a Meaning-Centered Cognitive Therapy.PDF

"The approach described in this essay understands Frankl’s attitudes as cognitions similar to Ellis’ rational beliefs. Logotherapy may then be viewed as a process of discovering and developing meaningful cognitions. When cognitive therapy is used as a tool to foster beliefs that are both rational and meaningful, clients are likely to develop self-transcendence and Frankl’s goal of rehumanizing psychotherapy is achieved. Indeed, when practiced over a period of time, one may even begin to comprehend the ultimate meaning of one’s own life as this author has discovered."
